Mona Petro is running for Hamilton County Commission because she believes real leadership means listening to people first, solving problems together, and putting community needs above special interests.
Originally from Memphis, Mona built a career that took her across the country, working in customer relations for a Fortune 50 company. For years, her job was simple at its core: listen carefully, solve problems, and make sure people felt heard and respected. Those skills guide her work to this day.
Mona and her husband, Geno, eventually began searching for a place where they could put down roots and truly be part of a community. When they arrived in Chattanooga, they knew they had found home. The warmth, kindness, and genuineness of the people stood out immediately.
Not long after settling here, Mona’s life changed when Geno was diagnosed with cancer. She lost him last year, a loss that reshaped her world. During the hardest chapter of her life, District 1 showed her what community really means. Neighbors, friends, and even strangers stepped in with compassion and support, helping her through when she didn’t think she could stand on her own. Her experience of loss showed her how vital strong social supports and compassionate community leadership are, especially for families facing hardship
That experience is why Mona is running for County Commission. She wants to give back to the community that gave so much to her. Mona is committed to protecting taxpayer dollars, ensuring every investment is responsible, necessary, and benefits the community.
Mona lives in District 1, pays taxes here, and cares deeply about its future. She is committed to serving the people of District 1—no matter their party—and helping make the community even stronger.
